For the Love of English!

by Dale Mayer

Growing up I was fascinated with the English language. Mostly because I constantly came close with my word usage – but not close enough. Words and phrases like affidavit and statute of limitations became (and I swore I was right back then) after David and statues of limitations. I was never too interested in writing back then, though I loved creating poetry.

In the intervening years that I married and had kids. During that time, I’ve watched the English language adapt to the arrival of the Internet, cell phones – and the combination of teens on both. I’m still in awe of the bastardization that happened so quickly. A whole new language has developed.

I’m not a big phone person to begin with and could cheerfully not carry a cellphone – but for the kids sake I had to learn and adapt myself. But it doesn’t come naturally.

I don’t like texting and don’t like trying to interpret what my kids are saying to me.  At least some of it’s transferable to Twitter!

Another blessing is that some of these shortforms are intuitive, such as k and kk for okay.

And some are in everyday use like LOL for laughing out loud and IMO for in my opinion.

But then there are other ones, such as:

New Release with giveaway!

by Dale Mayer

UPDATE – Congratulations to Jeannie for winning the ecopy of Maddy’s Floor!

Did you ever have a project that just wouldn’t come to completion?  A project that for all your best efforts – just won’t quit? Well, book 3 in my Psychic Vision Series, called MADDY’S FLOOR, was just that to me.

The esoteric levels in this book are higher than the first two books in the series, the concepts – a little more intangible, a little harder to clarify. I had cps, then an editor, revisions, editor, then a different editor.

What I had thought would be a December 2011 release, turned into a January, then March release and finally on Easter weekend, after more editing and revisions than I thought were possible – MADDY’S FLOOR was released. Read the rest of this entry »

Traditions at my house – the old and the new!

by Dale Mayer

As a single mother of four since 14 years, we’ve created our own traditions over the years.  We’ve never had any close family like grandparents or aunts and uncles to share the holidays with  so have ended up depending on ourselves. For the most part, our new traditions revolve around food.

It’s an interesting process that has developed. One that had worked well until this year.  But something happened this year.  My oldest two kids will be graduating university this next spring and have suddenly become adults when I wasn’t looking. Read the rest of this entry »

Hide’n Go Seek is here! New Release with giveaway!

by Dale Mayer

Hi everyone,

I’m excited to share the news that book 2 in the Psychic Vision Series – HIDE’N GO SEEK has just been released.  This book follows TUESDAY’S CHILD and has one character in common, Stefan Kronos.

A twisted game of Hide’n Go Seek forces an unlikely alliance between a no-nonsense FBI agent and a search-and-rescue worker.

Celebrated search-and-rescue worker Kali Jordon has hidden her psychic abilities by crediting her canine partner Shiloh with the recoveries. But Kali knows the grim truth – The Sight that she inherited from her grandmother allows her to trace violent energy unerringly to victims of violence. No one knows her secret until a twisted killer challenges her to a deadly game of Hide’n Go Seek that threatens those closest to her.

Now she must rely on FBI Special Agent Grant Summers, a man who is sworn to protect her even as he suspects there’s more to Kali and Shiloh than meets the eye. As the killer draws a tighter and tighter circle around Kali, she and Grant find there’s no place to hide.

Are her visions the key to finding the latest victim alive or will this twisted game of Hide’n Go Seek cost her…everything? Read the rest of this entry »

Entangled is here!

by Dale Mayer

Every once in a while, something special drops into my lap.  Such was the invitation to join the paranormal anthology called Entangled. I can’t tell you what an honor it is to be a part of this project.  Not only am I in such illustrious company, but ALL proceeds will go to Breast Cancer Research.  Why does that mean so much?  Both my mother and my aunt are breast cancer survivors – and I know just what that can mean for my daughter and myself.  I’m so glad to be able to contribute to finding a cure!

Here’s the blurb – Read the rest of this entry »
