Hiking Training for Idiots – Saga #2

by Lizbeth Selvig

Update. T-Minus 20 days and counting to the We-Are-Insane (aka Idiots) Vacation.

Training hike: I'll be seeing this guy and his hat a lot.

Last week I told you about beginning to train for our long-distance hike in England. Since then we’ve filled in even more plans and are learning more and more about our conditioning and readiness for this amazing trip. Hot dang! Someone should make a documentary of this—we’d be booked for comedy shows across the country. Read the rest of this entry »

Introducing Debut Author Maxine Mansfield

by Lizbeth Selvig

I’m so pleased to introduce everyone to my friend and fellow debut author, Maxine Mansfield. Maxine lives in Alaska and, trust me, the long summer days and longer winter nights have been nothing short of amazing in feeding her astounding imagination. Her hilarious-yet-somehow-tender, ultra-unique erotic fantasy, Touched by the Magic, was released on May 4, and I can guarantee you’ve never read another book like it. I mean, when a gnome’s blow-up doll plays a vital role in a story about paladins and dragons—unique is almost not a strong enough word! But no worries, the central love story is smokin’ hot and still touching. This is one erotica I might let my mama read! Read the rest of this entry »

Hiking Training for Idiots – Saga #1

by Lizbeth Selvig

There’s a reason the word “idiots” is in the title of this blog.  It isn’t because I’m really an idiot. It’s because . . .

Well, no,  it’s because I’m an idiot.

You see, I talked my husband into taking me on a trip to England. To visit Buckingham Palace? The Tower of London? Hyde Park? The red, double-decker buses?  Oh no. It’s to hike. 190 miles in 16 days.  And nope, I’m not joking. Read the rest of this entry »

If Zoo Animals Wrote Books or, My Muse is on Crack

by Lizbeth Selvig

I’m definitely blaming this one on my muse. I’d been missing her (my certifiable little muse) for a few weeks a while ago and hadn’t really done anything to locate her except whine. One day, in the middle of all this, DH and I headed for the zoo. This had nothing on the surface to do with Her, but once on the zoo grounds I kept having these envious thoughts: You lucky buggers (aka, animals), you don’t have to figure out what comes next in your story.

Bingo, Little Miss Muse-thing shows up and asks, “What kinds of stories do you think the animals would write?” (Sure, of course, she waltzes on back when I don’t need her. Typical.) I can’t explain what happened next, but I think my Muse had been, as the kids say, smoking crack. Check this out—Miss Muse’s suggestions for zoo animal plots.

The Book vs. Movie Wars

by Lizbeth Selvig

I’m not sure there’s anything new about the topic of comparing books to movies. I’m not sure there’s really any disagreement that, in general, movies rarely do justice to good books. But lately I’ve been obsessed with comparing the books-turned-films that I’ve seen, and I’m not sure my opinion quite fits the norm. Here’s why. Read the rest of this entry »

Guest Blogger: Meet Debut Author Jennifer Bernard

by Lizbeth Selvig

I am so excited and proud to introduce you to my inspiring friend and fellow Avon author, Jennifer Bernard. Jenny is an amazing writer and someone I completely look up to in a lot of ways. In fact, you’ll see we have quite a mutual admiration society going! I hope you’ll enjoy getting to know her, and will watch for her debut novel The Fireman Who Loved Me coming in April. Here’s a little taste:

Fearless, smoking hot and single: meet the Bachelor Firemen of San Gabriel. These firemen might be heroes, but it’s their bad luck in love that makes them legendary.

News producer Melissa McGuire and Fire Captain Harry Brody couldn’t be more different, though they do have one thing in common: they’re both convinced they’re perfectly wrong for each other.

But when Melissa’s matchmaking grandmother wins her a date with Brody at a bachelor auction… Sparks fly. Passion flares. Heat rises. (You get the picture.)

Add a curse, a conniving nightly news anchor, a stunningly handsome daredevil fireman, a brave little boy, a couple of exes, and one giant fire to the mix and Melissa and Brody’s love may not be the only thing that burns.

Welcome Jennifer!

Thank you so much to Lizbeth and all the other Musers for having me here today! It’s an honor to be visiting Liz’s place and hanging out with all the wonderful authors here. Since I’m new in these parts let me introduce myself. I write contemporary romance and my debut novel, The Fireman Who Loved Me, is coming out on April 24 from Avon Romance. It’s the first in a series about sexy, star-crossed firemen called The Bachelor Firemen of San Gabriel. The second book, coming May 29, is called Hot for Fireman. These guys may be heroes, but it’s their bad luck in love that makes them legendary – and fun to write about.

Champagne and Ticker Tape

by Lizbeth Selvig

Welcome to “The Rancher and the Rock Star’s” official release day! After the incredible, heart-warming response my sister and brother Musers (plus so many other friends) gave me last week when Abigail posted my R&RS pubbing story, this seems a little redundant. But, I couldn’t think of a better place to offer up some virtual bubbly and have a virtual ticker tape parade than here, where I’ve been made to feel like part of a really special family of writers.  I mean, there has to be a ticker tape parade of some kind for realizing a lifelong dream, right? The Legends of Valentine’s Day

by Lizbeth Selvig

Happy first of February to everyone!  In honor of the Month of Love, Blame it on the Muse authors will be blogging from now until February 14th on thoughts, traditions, and themes surrounding Valentine’s Day. If you’ll drop us a comment, you’ll be in the running for a Valentine’s gift basket chock full of all kinds of goodies from books to baubles.  (We’ll be telling you more about that in the next few days.)  Meanwhile, what better way to start a series on Valentine’s Day than with a smidgen of history? No worries, this isn’t boring history – it contains bits of legend, a dose of intrigue and, of course, a whole lotta love. Read the rest of this entry »

Live Long and . . . Fascinating!

by Lizbeth Selvig

My tale starts with the movie Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian. I never saw this movie in a theater. In fact, I’ve only ever seen half of it – the last half. Twice.  But I love it for one reason: the talking Einstein bobble heads that help Our Hero (Ben Stiller) solve the mystery of the Pharaoh’s tomb (which is 3.14159265  or  Pi, because spoilers don’t matter here; this is about bobble heads).

When I very first saw the adorable Bobble head Einsteins, I announced to my hubby (like that spoiled little Veruca Salt girl in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) “Honey, I waaant one! “

Guess what? Read the rest of this entry »
