Since it’s Muse Monday I thought we might try a little joint improvisational exercise. We writers have different ways of beginning a story, some know the main character or plot idea; others just start out with a first line. Sometimes our Muses needs to be tricked into coming up with new ideas. As Cadence mentioned in her blog post ‘ How to Kick-start Your Muse, free association is a good way to light a fire under the elusive critter. Or I come up with an idea, my CP elaborates. Where do you go to unblock your story?
So…whether you are one of our regular bloggers, readers, or new to our blog, please grab your muse and come play. We’re going to build a story, interactively.

Grace Burrowes’ career as a published author began with the release of “The Heir”, one of my favorite historicals, evah! followed by “The Soldier”. On October 1st, the third book in the series, “Lady Sophie’s Christmas Wish” was released and next Tuesday, The Virtuoso” comes to shelves in your favorite bookstore.
Grace’s bio makes for fascinating reading. You can view it on her brand new website, along with her blog, full detail on her series including deleted scenes and much more…
I’m delighted to welcome Grace, Vilhelm and Valentine to Blame It on the Muse today…

No seriously, really wounded, not angst, sad, grief stricken, well not just that. Have you read one where the hero gets wounded in a sacrifice to save the heroine and she has to nurse him back to health? I love those plots. (But he still needs to retain some of his dignity,
)
That’s just an example of one plot that’s out there. Writers are readers first. We write what we read and like all of our readers, there is a certain kind of story that appeals to us.

Years ago, favorite Navy Guy was on leave staying with us. (I didn’t give birth to him but taught him everything he needed to know about Top Gun in preparation for his Navy career.) I don’t know what we were doing but he turned to me and said, “I’ll bet your mother just sat you outside in front of one of those sparkly spinning yard ornaments and you stayed enthralled for hours.”

It seems that more and more writers are jumping into self-publishing every day. Whether you’re a multi-published author who wants to see that one story (you know the one everyone loved but the editors didn’t know how to sell?) or a writer with a series that’s too short, or an epic too long for traditional publishing – aside from the manuscript, you’ll all have to have one thing…
A cover.
So I’ve asked Laura Morrigan to come by today and the answer some questions on cover art design.
Welcome, Laura!

I haven’t had much time for reading lately, but I try to dip my toe into the proverbial TBR pile once a week even if it means listening to an audible book or library CD to refresh my stale creativity.
