Goal Setting after the Holidays: CAN YOU or WILL YOU?

In the last few years part our Holiday tradition involves sitting down with my husband and setting goals for our family. Afterwards, I take the time to set my personal goals for the year.
One of the more common goals for many is to get fit and lose weight. Usually that lasts a week. Most gyms will tell you they get a huge boost in membership in January, but by February most have stopped coming to the gym. It’s the same for diets. Read the rest of this entry »

Debut Author Carla Swafford and the Magic of Numbers

Carla Swafford was one of the first writers I met after joining RWA and a local chapter (Southern Magic). How long have you been writing?
Well, the first time I picked up paper and pen to write a story nagging at me was in 1985. But it wasn’t until 2002 that I truly became serious about becoming published. Before that, I’d thought only old men and women who lived in London or New York or on tropical islands wrote books. I love that image of old men and women in exotic places.

I’m afraid of the dark. If the lights go out, especially at night, my heart rate accelerates, my breathing quickens, my thoughts race. For a moment it’s all I can do not to fall to pieces. This is when I take a deep breath and force myself to focus on what to do first (usually its to find the flashlight that I forgot where I put).
