Thoughtful Thursday…It’s Not Fair!!!

by Rebecca J. Clark

I think they should rename this season, The Biggest Whiners. Sheesh. Did any of you see this week’s episode? If you didn’t, here’s a quick recap:

The show opened with the five remaining contestants saying they quit. They were upset because they’d just learned that all the eliminated contestants would be returning with a chance to win a spot in the finale. The remaining contestants said it wasn’t fair; those who’d stayed on The Biggest Loser Ranch had to endure the hours of training, the grueling challenges. Read the rest of this entry »

It’s the first day of Spring!

by Rebecca J. Clark

My calendar says it’s the first day of Spring, but the weather outside says otherwise. It snowed yesterday. Check out the photo on the right—that was taken just the other day. I think Mother Nature forgot it’s supposed to be warming up around here. Today, it’s pseudo sunny (meaning, it’s not raining), but it’s cold, cold, cold.

Yet, I love this time of year. I have such high expectations of myself, kind of like on January first with all the resolutions. This year, I’m going to get a handle on my yard before it gets away from me. This year, I’ll keep up on the weeding before it becomes a jungle. This year, I’ll actually finish all those little projects around the yard. Read the rest of this entry »

Better than Barry Bonds

by Rebecca J. Clark

Welcome to Day 6 of our Valentine’s Day giveaway. Commenting on this blog between Feb. 1 and Feb. 14 will put you in the drawing to win a fabulous gift basket from Blame It On the Muse authors.

The year was 1986. I was Maid of Honor for a college friend. The wedding was over and it was halfway into the reception. I was tired. I had a long drive home ahead of me. My feet were killing me in my stiletto heels. The bride saw me sitting alone (planning my escape) and said, “One of my friends has the hots for you and wants to meet you.” Oh, great, I thought. I’ve met some of your friends.  [No offense, Ellen, if you’re reading this LOL] But I succumbed and went off with her to meet this guy, thinking I’d leave right after the introduction. She introduced me to Dan and said, “You guys are perfect for each other. You both play baseball.” Uh, yeah. He played for the Pittsburgh Pirates and I’d played a few innings in my office’s annual softball tournament that summer. He played with Barry Bonds. I played with Bob from tech support. It’s how you look at it

by Rebecca J. Clark

Those of you who read this blog regularly might remember I’m a personal fitness trainer when I’m not writing romance novels. Every year around this time, I meet with each of my clients and we talk about how the previous year went for them, and we set goals for the coming year.

I want to share two conversations I’ve had over the years (with names and details changed for privacy, of course). I’m paraphrasing, but you’ll get the gist.

THOUGHTFUL THURSDAY: Stressed to calm in about 2 minutes

by Rebecca J. Clark

It’s that time of year again. Hustling and bustling. Everybody rushing here and there trying to find the perfect gift for everyone on their list. Going to Christmas parties and holiday gatherings. Decorating the house, inside and out—trying to keep up with the Griswolds across the street. We work ourselves into a stressed-out bundle of nerves trying to create the perfect Christmas.

 Well, knock it off.

Green Your Clean

Fall is officially here, and for many of us, this is the time to clean house before the snow flies.  This is also a great time to review your cleaning supplies and choose (or make) some that are healthier for the environment.  Read the rest of this entry »

Muse Monday: Walking your way to creativity

by Rebecca J. Clark

I used to hate any form of exercise, even leisurely walking, unless that leisurely walk took me to the ice cream parlor or bookstore. Or both.

I started walking when my kids were small because if I put them in the stroller and gave them a lollipop (I know—bad, bad mommy), they wouldn’t scream or otherwise make my nerves go taught as a violin string for at least 20 minutes. I knew for at least 20 minutes every morning I would have peace and quiet, time to gather my frazzled thoughts. Soon, those walks became addictive. Sometimes, I went for two walks a day. Sometimes even three, depending on whether or not the kids were in Alien Toddler mode.

Thoughtful Thursday: A Hero’s Random Act of Kindness

by Rebecca J. Clark

Every day we hear news stories about awful things going on in the world. All the top stories on the evening news are about shootings, robberies, kidnappings, stock market plunges, economic horror stories.

I am especially saddened by stories of soldiers or police officers dying, or anyone else who puts him/herself in harm’s way in order to protect me, my family and my country. Last week, I heard about the San Diego police officer who was shot and killed while minding his own business in his car. Officer Jeremy Henwood had served—and survived–three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan as a Marine only to die at the hands of a fellow American, a man he risked his life for.
