Even better in French. Great line from the movie, "Matrix Reloaded", where the antagonist says, "I love swearing in French, it's like wiping your "butt" with silk."

Hey Grace,
Your summer sounds every bit as eventful as a long hike, I must say! The redwoods, Oregon and California wine country are ready-made adventures.

As for the foot -- you can bet I'll do what I need to to stay safe. You're right about only one set of feet. We have purchased trip insurance for exactly the purpose of changing plans if need be. And, admittedly, a pony trek across England sounds plenty fun to me!!

This summer I'm getting in my beloved (paid off) truck and driving coast to coast, which I try to do at least once a year. I'm going to see much fambly, make the acquaintance of the Redwoods, set foot in Oregon (44 down, four to go in the lower 48), find an adventure or two in the California wine country, and oh yeah, write a book or two.

I must suggest, though, that you consider that Segway seriously. Plantar F-itis is nothing to fool around with, and if it's acting up after a couple of training hikes, then I for one, would respect you all the more should you set the hike aside and maybe pony trek, drive, drink, or otherwise find an alternate route through your vacation. England will be there, but you only get one set of feet.

woo hoo, zip lines! I've done them a couple of times and the only thing remotely wrong with that activity is that goes by so darn fast! I'd love to zipline for a full day -- at least it sounds good in my imagination :-) And, being from the Land of 10,000 Lakes, I don't need any convincing that summer by the water is anything but making do! Have a wonderful series of little vacations. And, thanks for the good wishes.

It sounds just dreamy, Marlo! To get to hang loose and just enjoy amazing friends in a place like that? Now that's a TRUE vacation! Enjoy!

Wow, I think that sounds like a fabulous summer, DT. Our oldest is celebrating the fourth summer since her papa made that walk. It goes by so quickly--so savor the moment. I hope we hear more about that day as it approaches!

As for the f-bombs: I have a confession. I think that word spoken with a British accent is one of the funniest things on Earth. Somehow it loses its shocking quality when softened from the harsh American flatness we give it here. But, it's no secret that I'm totally weird, so I could be wrong.

Well, down and dirty you'll likely get, Alix! I'll definitely keep the updates coming. You enjoy your day trips -- I think we don't, in general, do enough of that because it's so easy to take our home towns for granted. Good for you!

Oooh, Gail, we were just in San Antonio over Christmas/New Years--but only for one very short day since we made it a day trip from Houston. I love zoos and have that on my list for next time around. Isn't it good to be home after a trip, though?

Ah, Livia, such good advice. I plan to take notebooks and our new notebook laptop along and keep good track. But I've been wondering about starting my own blog (zoiks!) just to launch it with this trip. But I'm going to look into those apps--sounds like just the ticket! Thanks for the good wishes for my foot -- I'm making it listen to you!!

Sharon, we've had staycations the last three summers except for a couple of state park camping trips--so this is a major exception! There's a lot of joy to be found staying close to home--a lot less stress. But, I will definitely bombard you all with details - be careful what you wish for - lol!
